The Society of International Law and its Affairs is a student-driven committee in PGCL dedicated to contributing to the various aspects of International Law, International Relations, Global Affairs and corresponding academic development. SAIL strives to indulge in events and activities which foster the development of youth in and beyond the legal fraternity.

DETAIL: for events on 2025 -26

PGCL’s Society of International Law and Its Affairs (SAIL) continued to strengthen its commitment to fostering informed dialogue on international law, diplomacy, and global affairs through a diverse range of academic and experiential initiatives over the past year. By combining flagship conferences, distinguished speaker engagements, student-led discussions, and capacity-building programmes, SAIL provided students with meaningful opportunities to engage with contemporary legal and geopolitical developments.

The 3rd Edition of the PGCL Model United Nations served as the Society’s flagship event, bringing together delegates from across the country to deliberate upon pressing global and national issues through five engaging committees: the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), and the All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM). Through rigorous debate on themes including counterterrorism, artificial intelligence, international humanitarian law, private military companies, and press freedom, participants developed their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, policy analysis, and public speaking while gaining practical insight into international and domestic governance processes.

Further enriching academic discourse, SAIL had the privilege of hosting Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, Former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, for an In Conversation session on the theme, “Reimagining the United Nations.” The session offered students a unique opportunity to engage with one of India’s most distinguished diplomats and gain valuable perspectives on the evolving role of the United Nations, multilateral diplomacy, and the contemporary challenges confronting the international order.

Promoting student-led academic engagement, SAIL also organised a Student Moderated Discussion on the EU–India Free Trade Agreement, providing participants with an opportunity to critically examine the legal, economic, and policy implications of the recently ratified agreement. The discussion encouraged informed debate and collaborative analysis, enabling students to engage with contemporary developments in international trade law while strengthening their research, analytical, and communication skills.

In keeping with its inclusive and student-centric vision, SAIL hosted Fresher’s MUN 2026, specially designed to introduce first-year students to the world of diplomacy and international affairs. Through simulations of the United Nations General Assembly – Disarmament and International Security Committee (UNGA-DISEC) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), participants debated issues relating to Artificial Intelligence in modern warfare, Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS), and the protection of human rights in protracted international armed conflicts. The initiative provided a supportive platform for students to develop confidence in public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking while gaining practical exposure to international dialogue.

Collectively, these initiatives reflect SAIL’s continued efforts to cultivate a vibrant culture of global awareness, critical inquiry, and student-led diplomacy at PGCL, reinforcing its role as a dynamic forum for learning, dialogue, and international engagement.

PGCL’s Society of International Law and Its Affairs (SAIL) continued to uphold its commitment to making international law and diplomacy both accessible and intellectually stimulating for students through a series of well-curated, thought-provoking initiatives over the past year.

The 2nd Edition of the PGCL Model United Nations stood out as a flagship event, bringing together enthusiastic delegates who stepped into the roles of diplomats, policymakers, and journalists across four dynamic committees: UNHRC, UNGA-DISEC, ECOSOC, and the International Press. Through rigorous debate on pressing global issues, participants sharpened their skills in negotiation, policy analysis, and diplomatic engagement, while gaining a deeper, practical understanding of multilateral decision-making processes.

Further enriching academic discourse, SAIL organised a Moderated Discussion on the Trump Presidency, which prompted nuanced and insightful conversations on the impact of global leadership on the rule-based international order. The discussion encouraged students to critically examine the fragility and resilience of multilateral institutions, fostering informed reflection on contemporary international relations and governance structures.

In keeping with its inclusive and student-centric vision, SAIL also hosted a Fresher’s MUN, specially designed to welcome first-year students into the world of international affairs. This initiative provided a supportive platform for newcomers to explore global dialogue, develop critical thinking abilities, and build confidence in public speaking, laying a strong foundation for future academic and extracurricular engagement.

DETAIL: for events on 2022 -23

SAIL hosted a moderated Discussion on the Russian Invasion of Ukraine in the intellectually stimulating environment of the PGCL Moot Court Room on 8th August, 2022. In light of the pressing global issue surrounding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, PGCL organized a moderated discussion to delve deep into its multifaceted implications. The primary objective was to equip students with a lucid understanding of the reasons behind the conflict, its subsequent humanitarian consequences, and the wider disruptions it posed to the established world order.

A Webinar by Prof. Chhaya Bhardwaj on “Challenges of Global Diplomacy and Implications of War on Transnational Dynamics” was organized on 16-02-2023 in the virtual mode. As an esteemed figure in the realm of global diplomacy, Prof. Bhardwaj’s expertise was harnessed to present an illuminating discourse on the challenges faced in international diplomacy and the repercussions wars have on transnational dynamics.

In light of the growing significance of maritime laws in the international arena, PGCL organized a Certificate course on “Importance of International Law and its Relations with a Special Maritime Module” between 5^th to 24^th April’ 23 to elucidate the intricacies of International Law, with a special focus on Maritime Laws. This course was meticulously designed to introduce students to the foundational aspects of International Law, emphasizing the relevance and nuances of Maritime Laws in today’s world. The initiative aimed to enrich students with the critical knowledge necessary for navigating the complex interplay between International Law and Maritime Laws.

With an intent to enlighten the students about the United Nations, its pivotal role in global affairs, and its multifaceted structure, functions and procedure, PGCL organized Model United Nations. This initiative was targeted specifically for students, ensuring they gain a comprehensive grasp of the workings of the United Nations, thereby setting a foundation for their potential future engagements in Model United Nations simulations. The session sought to cultivate an appreciation for international diplomacy and the significance of the UN in shaping global narratives.
